Exciting Sing-Along Screenings for Wicked Movie Launch
The anticipation for the upcoming film adaptation of Wicked is building, and Broadway enthusiasts have something special to look forward to this holiday season. Beginning on December 25, select movie theaters across North America will offer exclusive sing-along screenings of the much-anticipated new film. According to Variety, fans will have the chance to join in on beloved songs from the musical, such as “Popular,” “The Wizard and I,” and “Defying Gravity,” in approximately 1,000 theaters.
This initiative follows a trend where major studios tap into the enthusiastic musical audience. Previous films, notably The Greatest Showman, have enjoyed success with similar sing-along formats. Details pertaining to participating theaters and specific showtimes are expected to be shared in the forthcoming weeks, keeping fans eager for upcoming announcements.
The film Wicked explores the backstory of the iconic witches from Oz, with Cynthia Erivo portraying Elphaba, a character who is often misunderstood due to her striking green skin, as she embarks on a journey to discover her true potential. Ariana Grande takes on the role of Glinda, a young woman whose privileged upbringing and ambitious nature mask her deeper, unrecognized qualities.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Land of Oz, the two characters meet at Shiz University, where they develop an unlikely yet meaningful friendship. However, after a fateful encounter with The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their bond is tested, leading them on diverging life paths.
The star-studded cast includes Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Ariana Grande as Glinda, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Marissa Bode as Nessarose. The first installment of the film is slated to premiere on November 22, 2024, with the sequel scheduled for release on November 21, 2025.
