Following an impressive 11-year tenure at Loewe, Jonathan Anderson has been appointed the artistic director of Dior menswear. This transition comes after the departure of Kim Jones, who stepped down in January.

The announcement regarding Anderson’s new role was made public after LVMH chairman and CEO Bernard Arnault revealed during the conglomerate’s annual general meeting that Anderson would lead the design for the upcoming Dior Men show scheduled for 27 June.

Anderson’s journey began in September 2013 when he became the creative director at the LVMH-owned Loewe. At that time, he was a relatively young designer at 29, having recently launched his own brand, JW Anderson, in 2008. LVMH invested in his brand with a minority stake in 2013. While at Loewe, Anderson continually impressed the industry with innovative shows, strategic collaborations, and engaging marketing campaigns.

His leadership transformed Loewe into one of the most sought-after luxury fashion brands. Notably, his Spring/Summer 2025 show garnered a standing ovation from numerous fashion luminaries, including Sarah Burton and Pharrell Williams. Under his direction, Loewe’s revenues surged from an estimated €230 million in 2014 to an impressive range of €1.5 billion to €2 billion projected for 2024, according to Bernstein analyst Luca Solca.

Anderson’s departure from Loewe was officially announced in March, with Proenza Schouler founders Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez stepping in to succeed him.

The key question now is whether Anderson can replicate his previous successes at Dior Men. Like many luxury brands, Dior is facing challenges related to a luxury market downturn and global economic instability. In the first quarter of the year, LVMH reported a 5 percent decline in sales within its fashion and leather goods division, with Dior underperforming slightly compared to the average for this segment. Nevertheless, Dior remains an influential brand, with sales recorded at €8.7 billion in 2024, down from €9.48 billion in 2023, as estimated by HSBC.

With a reputation for creating conceptual and practical collections, Anderson’s design ethos aligns closely with the essence of Dior, and his proven work ethic suggests he is well-equipped to contribute meaningfully to the brand’s legacy.
