Josh Groban Discusses New Album and Empowering Young Artists on The Kelly Clarkson Show
Recently, celebrated singer and Tony-nominated artist Josh Groban appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show to unveil details about his upcoming album, titled Gems. This compilation showcases 18 of his most notable tracks, including renditions of “All I Ask of You” from The Phantom of the Opera and the classic “Over the Rainbow,” both of which he performed during the episode.
Groban’s performance of “All I Ask of You” marked a noteworthy collaboration, as it was the first time he recorded with Clarkson. During his conversation with guest host Wanda Sykes, Groban highlighted their mutual affection for musical theater, expressing hopes that Clarkson might eventually venture into Broadway. Although she has not yet made her Broadway debut, Clarkson has indicated her involvement in a musical project and aspirations of appearing on stage.
In addition to discussing his album and anticipated Las Vegas residency, Groban took the opportunity to engage with the nonprofit organization, Broadway Bound Kids. This New York-based organization is dedicated to providing free musical theater education to children who might otherwise lack access to such opportunities. Groban’s involvement with Broadway Bound Kids is part of his commitment through his own foundation, Find Your Light.
Education director Samantha Parrish articulated the unique mission of Broadway Bound Kids, stating, “What sets us apart and makes us different is we’re focused on serving the whole child and understanding that having access to the Arts is not just a foregone conclusion.” This holistic approach ensures that children receive comprehensive support in their artistic development.
One student, Melany, shared her personal journey with the program, explaining how it impacted her during challenging times. “I started this program when I was in middle school and my parents were also going through a divorce and that was a lot. But my mom knew that I loved to sing so she signed me up for Broadway Bound Kids and the rest was history,” she recalled. Melany highlighted how the program inspired her to pursue theater as a lifelong passion.
A benefit event supporting Broadway Bound Kids and theater education is scheduled for tonight, March 10th, at City Winery. This gathering will feature performances by Groban alongside his foundation, Find Your Light, with other notable attendees including Colton Ryan, George Abud, Major Attaway, Donnie Kehr, Apollo Levine, N’Kenge, and Morgan Reilly.
