Steven Spielberg’s upcoming top secret project brings on board The Crown star Josh O’Connor, alongside Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo and Eve Hewson.
Steven Spielberg is gearing up to release a new science fiction film, slated for May 15, 2026. This project promises to be a fascinating addition to his illustrious filmography.
Josh O’Connor, known for his roles in The Crown and Challengers, has officially joined the cast of Spielberg’s mystery project. He will be working alongside a talented ensemble that includes Emily Blunt, Colin Firth, Colman Domingo, and Eve Hewson. Fans are eagerly anticipating this collaboration, especially since Spielberg is reuniting with David Koepp, the screenwriter behind iconic films like Jurassic Park. With the studio hinting that this film will introduce “a new original event,” it seems to be a fresh venture into the realm of science fiction. Speculation suggests that Spielberg may revisit themes of extraterrestrial encounters reminiscent of classics such as Close Encounters of the Third Kind, E.T., and War of the Worlds.
Details regarding the film’s narrative, particularly the character roles, are currently under wraps. Nevertheless, fans can rest assured that Koepp’s involvement is a positive sign, given his history of crafting successful scripts for major franchises like War of the Worlds and Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
According to a report by Empire, there are rumors suggesting that Spielberg’s forthcoming film might be titled The Dish, which could feature a UFO-themed storyline. This speculation was ignited during an IMAX Investor Presentation where a film by that title was briefly listed for a summer release. However, as the title was later withdrawn from the schedule, curiosity surrounding its connection to Spielberg’s project has only intensified. As it stands, there has been no official announcement regarding the title or plot, leaving audiences intrigued.
Josh O’Connor recently starred in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers alongside Zendaya and Mike Faist, portraying a once-promising tennis player who unexpectedly reaches the finals of a lesser league tournament, where he faces off against his former doubles partner turned successful competitor.
O’Connor is also engaged in other projects, including Kelly Reichardt’s heist film The Mastermind, where he co-stars with Alana Haim. In addition, he is set to appear in the highly anticipated Knives Out 3, also known as Wake Up Dead Man, helmed by Rian Johnson, which is expected to hit theaters in 2025. This sequel boasts an impressive cast, including Daniel Craig reprising his role as detective Benoit Blanc, along with Glenn Close, Josh Brolin, Mila Kunis, Jeremy Renner, Kerry Washington, Andrew Scott, Cailee Spaeny, Daryl McCormack, and Thomas Haden Church.
