On Friday, Milwaukee Judge Hannah Dugan was taken into custody by the FBI for allegedly providing assistance to an undocumented immigrant, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, to evade federal capture following a court appearance. FBI Director Kash Patel, in a now-deleted social media post, indicated that Dugan is facing charges of obstruction.
According to Patel, evidence has emerged suggesting Dugan hindered an immigration enforcement operation last week.
Key Facts
The arrest of Judge Dugan occurred after allegations that she obstructed federal efforts to detain an undocumented immigrant, Eduardo Flores Ruiz, shortly after he was present in her courtroom. Patel claimed that Dugan “intentionally misdirected” authorities in pursuit of Ruiz, who was reportedly the target of the arrest operation.
Brady McCarron, a spokesperson for the U.S. Marshals Service, confirmed to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Dugan was apprehended around 8 a.m. at the Milwaukee County Courthouse. This was shortly after she had denied the allegations earlier in a statement, asserting her innocence.
Chief Judge of Milwaukee County Circuit Court, Carl Ashley, noted that on April 18, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had visited the courthouse with a warrant for Ruiz’s arrest. However, he did not comment on Dugan’s potential involvement or indicate whether an investigation into her actions was underway.
Patel’s deleted post mentioned that while Ruiz was ultimately taken into custody, Dugan’s actions allegedly posed a heightened risk to public safety.
As of now, neither the Justice Department nor the FBI has released a statement regarding this incident.
This is a developing story.
