Julia Fox is recognized as a formidable figure in the fashion world, known for her bold and innovative approach to style. The star of Uncut Gems consistently embraces daring trends, frequently addressing the narrative surrounding women’s bodies and their attire. One of her most distinctive passions lies in wearing garments that are upcycled or inspired by upcycling.

Before she took on the role of host for OMG Fashun, a design competition centered around sustainable fashion, Fox was already a proponent of creating outfits from repurposed materials. Her experimental wardrobe includes striking pieces such as a co-ord set crafted from watches and a skirt fashioned entirely from boxer waistbands. Recently, her dazzling cutout dress has captivated attention, combining her affinity for repurposed fashion with the naked dressing trend currently trending in Hollywood.

Julia’s Cutout Gown

On March 12, at the premiere of her latest film, Idiotka, during the SXSW Conference in Austin, Texas, Fox made a statement with her audacious fashion choice. True to what has been dubbed The Julia Fox Effect, her arrival on the red carpet was marked by a strikingly minimal black dress adorned with significant cutout designs.

This particular little black dress stood out from the usual offerings with its strapless, floor-length form, featuring expansive cutouts that extended from her torso all the way down her legs. What initially appeared to be elegant black ribbons were, upon closer inspection, actually crafted from repurposed blazer sleeves.

The unconventional dress, made up of interwoven blazer sleeves secured in front, created an eye-catching look that was undeniably revealing, showcasing her beige underwear. To complement her statement piece, Fox opted for simplicity with her accessories, pairing the outfit with pointed-toe pumps.

Behold, Her Go-To Repurposed Aesthetic

While many of Fox’s appearances are characterized by avant-garde pieces that generate buzz, her most innovative outfits often reflect her commitment to sustainability through repurposing. For instance, in August, she sported a skirt constructed entirely from boxer brief waistbands, which she styled with a sleek crop top featuring integrated metal piercings.

Earlier, she made headlines with a creative set combining deconstructed sneakers transformed into a lace-up bra and miniskirt, thanks to the upcycling brand HARAM.

In a striking display at New York Fashion Week in 2023, Fox wore a bandeau bra and a micro miniskirt made exclusively from watch faces, while her handbag was crafted from belt buckles. She has also ventured into designs using belts, donning several outfits constructed from these items, including an all-denim belt dress and various other creations that showcase her imaginations, such as an all-black leather belt dress and a mixed belt bandeau bra paired with a micro mini skirt.

Upcycling has become a defining element of Julia Fox’s style, reinforcing her reputation as a trendsetter in the sustainable fashion domain.
