Julien Baker and TORRES’ Send a Prayer My Way makes a notable entry at No. 5 on Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart for the week of May 3. This collaborative album, released on April 18, sold approximately 6,500 copies in the U.S. during the week ending April 26, per Luminate’s tracking.
Baker, who has previously achieved two solo entries on the Top Album Sales chart, is also one of the members of Boygenius, a group that has delivered three titles to this ranking.
Billboard’s Top Album Sales chart focuses specifically on traditional album sales, with its history beginning on May 25, 1991. This reflects when Billboard first introduced charts based on electronically monitored sales data from SoundScan, now known as Luminate. Initially, pure album sales were the sole metric for the Billboard 200 albums chart until a methodology shift on December 6, 2014, which began incorporating track equivalent album (TEA) units and streaming equivalent album (SEA) units alongside sales.
In addition to its No. 5 debut on the Top Album Sales chart, Send a Prayer My Way also enters at No. 4 on the Vinyl Albums chart, No. 6 on the Indie Store Album Sales, No. 16 on the Americana/Folk Albums, and No. 34 on Independent Albums.
In a noteworthy turn, Doechii achieves the largest sales week of her career along with her first chart-topping album, Alligator Bites Never Heal, which reclaims the top spot with 14,000 copies sold. Previously available only as a download and in select vinyl editions, the album saw an expanded vinyl release on April 19, introducing two new color variants at Target and Urban Outfitters, complemented by the availability of a widely released CD.
Following Doechii, three former No. 1 albums ascend the Top Album Sales chart: Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet climbs from 7 to 2 (8,500 sales, down 14%), Kendrick Lamar’s GNX rises from 8 to 3 (8,000 sales, down 16%), and Lady Gaga’s MAYHEM moves from 14 to 4 (nearly 7,000 copies, down 11%). While many albums showed upward movement, overall sales tended to decline as the chart returns to typical patterns following a busy Record Store Day event.
Additionally, Childish Gambino’s 2024 release Bando Stone and the New World reenters the Top Album Sales at No. 6, selling nearly 6,500 copies after making its physical debut on vinyl, marking both its best sales week and its first appearance in the top 10.
Chappell Roan’s successful album The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess jumps from 19 to 7 (5,500 sales, down 20%). Elton John and Brandi Carlile’s Who Believes in Angels? rises from 10 to 8 (just above 4,500 sales, down 50%), while Fleetwood Mac’s classic album Rumours soars from 36 to 9 (4,500 sales, down 3%). Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft rounds out the top ten at No. 10 with nearly 4,500 copies sold, showing a slight decrease of 2%.
