The upcoming Broadway musical Just in Time has announced the cancellation of its first two preview performances. Initially set to kick off on March 28, the opening date has now been pushed back to March 31 due to delays in production.
This new musical delves into the life of iconic singer Bobby Darin, aiming to transform the Circle in the Square Theater into an intimate setting reminiscent of a classic nightclub. The creative vision is helmed by Tony Award-winning director Alex Timbers, who is renowned for his innovative staging and storytelling. Just in Time invites viewers to take a journey through Darin’s tumultuous career, highlighting both his remarkable successes and personal struggles. The production features the talents of Groff alongside a skilled ensemble of 11 performers, complemented by a live band delivering renditions of Darin’s most celebrated hits such as “Beyond the Sea,” “Splish Splash,” “Dream Lover,” and “Mack the Knife.”
The musical is structured around a book co-written by Tony Award winner Warren Leight and Isaac Oliver, with music supervision and arrangement handled by Andrew Resnick. Choreography is provided by Shannon Lewis, and the production itself is grounded in an original concept crafted by Ted Chapin. In addition to its compelling narrative, Just in Time boasts impressive design elements, including scenic design by two-time Tony Award recipient Derek McLane, costuming by eight-time Tony Award winner Catherine Zuber, and lighting design overseen by Tony Award winner Justin Townsend. The sound design, an essential element for a musical of this nature, is executed by Tony Award-winning sound designer Peter Hylenski. Production Stage Manager Scott Rowen plays a critical role in ensuring the show runs smoothly, while Live Wire Theatrical manages its overall production logistics.
