Ryan Reynolds Seeks Dismissal of Lawsuit by Justin Baldoni
In a recent legal development, Ryan Reynolds has filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit brought against him and his wife, Blake Lively, by actor and director Justin Baldoni, claiming that the basis of the suit stems from mere “hurt feelings” rather than legitimate legal grievances.
The motion, submitted to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, argues that Baldoni’s complaints regarding the portrayal of a character named “Nicepool” in the upcoming film “Deadpool vs. Wolverine” reflect nothing more than Baldoni’s personal sensitivities. The dismissal points out that Baldoni’s concerns lack any substantive legal foundation.
According to the motion, Baldoni’s grievances fall into a vague category of “hurt feelings” and are essentially an attempt to perpetuate a negative narrative surrounding Lively. The document alleges that this narrative is part of a broader campaign of backlash initiated by the Wayfarer Parties against her following her personal remarks about inappropriate conduct experienced during the production of “It Ends With Us.”
The motion to dismiss criticizes the Wayfarer lawsuit for its failure to provide adequate factual support for its claims. It states that the complaint does not establish a prima facie case for defamation, asserting that no actual defamatory statements exist within the context of their grievances.
In addition to addressing the lawsuit, Reynolds’ motion highlights what he characterizes as Baldoni’s concerted effort, backed by his public relations team, to undermine Lively in response to her outspoken stance on issues related to sexual harassment during her work on “It Ends With Us.” Reynolds portrays himself as a supportive partner, emphasizing the toll this situation has taken on Lively in terms of her personal and professional reputation.
The legal filing further contends that Reynolds has become a target in the lawsuit solely due to the involvement of billionaire plaintiff Steve Sarowitz, who allegedly expressed a desire to spend significant resources to damage the reputations of both Reynolds and Lively.
