Police Investigate Connections in K Armstrong Murder Case
The inquiry into the murder of K Armstrong, the Chief of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Tamil Nadu, has intensified, with Sembium police questioning Monisha, the wife of filmmaker and lawyer Nelson Dilipkumar. Armstrong was brutally killed by a group of six assailants on motorcycles outside his residence in Chennai in July 2024. Authorities have reported a significant development in the case, having arrested 24 individuals allegedly linked to the crime.
Monisha has come under police scrutiny primarily due to her ongoing communications with Mottai Krishnan, a lawyer who is currently evading arrest. Krishnan is thought to have connections with notorious criminal Sambo Senthil, who is also implicated in Armstrong’s murder. Evidence presented by the police indicates that Krishnan initiated contact with Monisha shortly after the murder occurred on July 5, a day after which he reportedly fled the country.
In a related development, Porkodi, the spouse of a notorious criminal identified as Suresh alias Arcot, was apprehended on August 19. Suresh was himself a history-sheeter who was killed in August 2023. Porkodi was located at a hideout along the Tamil Nadu-Andhra Pradesh border and subsequently transported back to Chennai for legal proceedings. Following initial inquiries, she has been ordered into judicial custody until September 2.
Additionally, the case saw a significant turn when K Thiruvengadam, a notable suspect implicated in Armstrong’s assassination, was shot dead by police in July. Thiruvengadam reportedly attempted to attack an officer while in custody and made an effort to escape. This incident occurred during an investigation where police were seeking concealed weapons in a north Chennai location, leading to the altercation and subsequent shooting.
After being taken to a medical facility, Thiruvengadam was pronounced dead on arrival. In his thirties, he was among 11 suspects arrested in connection with the Armstrong murder and had a prior criminal record. A Tamil Nadu court had recently granted law enforcement five days to further detain and question the suspects linked to the ongoing investigation.
