K-pop fans are energetically rallying behind their favorite nominees for the 2025 American Music Awards (AMAs). This year’s nominations have seen strong contenders, including Ateez, Jimin, RM, Rosé, and Stray Kids, all vying for recognition in the Best K-Pop Artist category. The current voting phase, which allows fans to participate actively, is underway at VoteAMAs.com and can also be followed through the @AMAs on Instagram.

This year marks a noteworthy moment in the awards, as RM and Jimin, both prominent members of BTS, find themselves nominated against each other. Their nominations are particularly remarkable given that both managed to release music during their service in the South Korean military. Furthermore, RM’s nomination represents a significant milestone as he becomes the first K-pop rapper to be acknowledged in this category by the American music organization.

Meanwhile, Ateez has enjoyed a prosperous year highlighted by a successful tour in the United States, while Stray Kids have also made waves. Rosé, a member of Blackpink, is recognized for her collaboration with Bruno Mars on the track “Apt.,” contributing to her strong nomination this year.

This upcoming ceremony is only the second time K-pop artists are acknowledged explicitly in the AMAs, with the Best K-Pop Artist category first introduced in 2022. In its inaugural year, BTS took home the award, competing against other groups like Blackpink, Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together, and Twice. However, due to a hiatus in the award categories during 2023 and 2024, the acknowledgment of K-pop had taken a pause. To date, BTS remains the only K-pop group to break into the broader general categories at both the AMAs and the Grammy Awards, showcasing their consistent popularity and influence.

Gold Derby is currently hosting its own poll to gauge the preferences of the online fanbase for this category. Fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite among Ateez, Jimin, RM, Rosé, or Stray Kids to determine who should be crowned Best K-Pop Artist.

The award show will be broadcast live from Las Vegas on CBS and will also be available for streaming on Paramount+ on Memorial Day, May 26, featuring Jennifer Lopez as the host, returning after a decade-long absence.

Stray Kids also made a notable appearance during last year’s AMAs anniversary special, performing a medley that included a tribute to ‘NSync alongside their original song “Chk Chk Boom.”

Note: The American Music Awards are produced by Dick Clark Productions, a subsidiary of Penske Media, which is involved in a joint venture with Eldridge Industries and Gold Derby’s parent company.
