The anticipation surrounding the Punjabi film Jombieland is growing, especially with its unique premise in the horror genre. Starring Kanika Mann, Binnu Dhillon, and Angira Dhar, this marks the first Punjabi zombie horror film set to premiere in theaters on June 13. Months ahead of its release, the production team is actively promoting the film, with actress and singer Kanika Mann recently sharing the official poster on Instagram, offering a sneak peek into the film’s thrilling narrative.
The unveiled poster features G Khan attempting a daring escape from a pack of zombies while navigating a jeep. Helmed by director Thaparr, the film unfolds in a village plagued by the fictional Z1N1 virus, resulting in chaos and terror.
Produced by Neeraj Ruhil and Subhav Sharma under Next Level Productions, Jombieland features a talented cast that includes Dhanveer Singh, Guri, and Jassa Dhillon. Notably, the film will be available in five languages: Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam, showcasing its wide appeal.
Accompanying the poster release, the production team teased audiences with a message that read, “Horror, humour, and a whole lot of zombies! Brace yourself for the madness – First Look is out now! Apocalypse begins on 13th June.”
In sharing insights about Jombieland, Thaparr reflected on his intrinsic fascination with original concepts. He expressed how the notion of a zombie apocalypse set against the backdrop of Punjab had been a persistent idea in his mind. “With Punjabi cinema yet to explore this genre, it felt like a fantastic opportunity to establish something new,” Thaparr shared, emphasizing his intent to make a meaningful entry into the film landscape.
Delving into the plot, the director described it as a romantic story that morphs into a horrifying experience. The narrative follows characters Jeeti and Koko, whose impending wedding is disrupted by the outbreak of a lethal virus in their village. Audiences can expect an impactful journey as they witness a gripping battle for survival in the wake of a zombie invasion. Thaparr mentioned that this film is intended to be the first installment of an exhilarating trilogy aimed at providing diverse entertainment to viewers of all generations.
Producers Subhav Sharma and Neeraj Ruhil conveyed their excitement for Jombieland, highlighting the project’s unique theme as a major attraction. “The concept of zombies truly captivated us. The script was both compelling and unprecedented in Indian cinema, which encouraged us to back this endeavor,” they remarked. They also acknowledged their long-standing collaboration with the director, affirming their trust in his vision and capabilities to bring such an ambitious film to fruition.
