Kanye West has recently attracted attention once again for controversial statements made on X, formerly known as Twitter. This time, however, the focus of his remarks was a personal revelation regarding an incestuous relationship with his cousin during his childhood, which he claims lasted until he was 14 years old.
The provocative disclosure accompanied the release of a video for his song “Cousins.” The track opens with the line, “Hanging out with my cousin readin’ dirty magazines,” which sets the tone for a narrative steeped in troubling themes.
In his post, West shared that the song addresses his cousin, who is currently serving a life sentence for killing a pregnant woman, indicating a tumultuous and tragic connection to his past. “Perhaps in my self-centered mess I felt it was my fault that I showed him those dirty magazines when he was 6 and then we acted out what we saw,” West confessed. He also alluded to discovering explicit materials in his mother’s closet, contrasting them with the content he found in his father’s Playboy magazines, further complicating his narrative.
West’s social media activity has been erratic over the years, characterized by inflammatory comments and controversial behaviors. In 2022, he faced significant backlash for provoking discussions around race and prejudice, particularly after wearing a shirt that boldly stated “White Lives Matter” and making antisemitic claims about Sean Combs, which led to him being locked out of Instagram.
These actions resulted in a slew of lost endorsements, causing major brands like Adidas and Balenciaga to sever ties with him. In February of the following year, West’s X account was deactivated following a series of antisemitic tweets, including a shocking admission of identifying as a Nazi.
Earlier in February, West also challenged previous assertions about his mental health, claiming he does not deal with bipolar disorder as once thought, but rather identifies as having autism. During an appearance on “The Download” podcast with Justin LaBoy, he stated, “Come to find out it’s really a case of autism that I have.”
In addition to these revelations, West faces multiple legal challenges, including a November lawsuit from a model who alleged that he sexually assaulted her on the set of a 2010 music video. This case is among several lawsuits against the artist, which also involve issues linked to his now-defunct Donda Academy.
