The Future of The Pivot Podcast: Searching for a New Home
The well-known tech podcast, The Pivot, hosted by Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway, is exploring new opportunities as their contract with Vox Media comes to a conclusion. Reports suggest that the forthcoming deal could reach a substantial eight-figure sum, according to Ashley Carman, a business reporter from Bloomberg.
Carman has indicated via social media that CNN is among the potential candidates interested in acquiring the podcast. Swisher, a prominent figure in tech journalism, recently joined CNN as an on-air contributor in November 2023, and has appeared frequently as a panelist on “The Chris Wallace Show,” which airs every Saturday at 10 a.m. ET.
The latest episode of The Pivot featured guests such as Elton John and R.J. Cutler, famed documentarian of Martha Stewart, tackling topics including the internet’s fascination with the accused assassin Luigi Mangione and the recent pardons issued by President Joe Biden ahead of his departure from office.
According to Carman, Galloway, who teaches marketing at NYU Stern School of Business, mentioned on his podcast “Prof G. Pod” that The Pivot is projected to generate $10 million in revenue this year. Additionally, he anticipates earning $6 million from his Prof G podcast and estimates that his new venture, “Raging Moderates,” may yield $2 million in the upcoming year.
“The financial figures reflect the level of confidence Galloway and Swisher possess about securing an eight-figure deal,” Carman stated.
Alongside her work on The Pivot, Swisher also hosts a different podcast titled “On with Kara Swisher” and serves as an editor-at-large for New York Magazine.
The Pivot has been under the Vox Media umbrella since its inception in 2018. However, Vox Media recently experienced significant changes, including a fresh round of layoffs that notably impacted its Thrillist brand, leading to its effective closure.
Vox Media’s portfolio extends beyond Thrillist; the company also owns several other well-known brands, such as Eater, New York magazine, The Dodo, Grub Street, Intelligencer, Polygon, SB Nation, The Cut, The Strategist, Seeker, The Verge, Vox, and Vulture.
