The White House may need to cue an audio reminder whenever press secretary Karoline Leavitt makes an error in her statements—perhaps a “Law & Order” sound effect could aid in her awareness.
During a recent press briefing, Leavitt made a notable mistake when she confidently proclaimed that President Donald Trump’s Justice Department would be dedicated to “fighting law and order,” instead of the intended “fighting for law and order.”
This verbal slip elicited a wave of amusement on platforms like Bluesky and X, formerly Twitter, with commentators observing the irony, given that the Trump administration is frequently accused of undermining law and order itself.
Several users referenced instances where Trump appeared to disregard judicial decisions, particularly mentioning a situation where planes facilitating deportations under the Alien Enemies Act were reportedly not returned as ordered by a judge. Others pointed out Trump’s legal troubles, highlighting that he is now considered a convicted felon.
Leavitt’s error occurred after ABC News senior political correspondent Rachel Scott questioned her about Trump’s intentions regarding investigations into members of the bipartisan January 6 Select Committee.
Before concluding his presidency, former President Joe Biden issued pardons to lawmakers who had played key roles in examining the U.S. Capitol riot. However, early on Monday, Trump took to social media to issue an impassioned statement on Truth Social, claiming those pardons were “VOID, VACANT, AND OF NO FURTHER FORCE OR EFFECT.”
In his post, Trump asserted that Biden had used an autopen—a device that replicates signatures—to sign off on the pardons. This claim is tied to a report from the Oversight Project, which is linked to the Heritage Foundation.
Trump argued that Biden’s executive actions should be disregarded, alleging that Biden either did not sign them or lacked knowledge of their content.
It is important to note that the use of autopens by U.S. presidents is a long-standing practice, and Trump himself later acknowledged that he had also utilized an autopen during his presidency.
