Kate Hudson, celebrated for her leading performance in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, revealed that she once had the chance to play a significant role in another iconic film, The Devil Wears Prada. Reports indicate she was offered the part ultimately played by Anne Hathaway but declined it due to conflicts in her schedule. Recently, Hudson expressed her regret about that decision, stating that she wishes she had cleared her calendar to work alongside such talents as Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci. She referred to the choice as a “bad call” and although she felt disheartened after watching the film, she also acknowledged the belief that everything happens for a reason and that sometimes timing simply does not align as one would hope.
During her appearance on Capital FM, Hudson candidly remarked, “That was a bad call. It was like a timing thing, and I just couldn’t do it. I should have made it happen. When I saw the film, I was like, ugh. But again, everything happens for a reason. There’s a reason for that. It felt like one of those moments where I really should have made it work. It’s interesting how films come together, like waves—everyone shooting at different times. It’s not about not wanting the role; it’s about timing, and it really sucked.”
The Devil Wears Prada, directed by David Frankel and based on the novel by Lauren Weisberger, centers around Andy, an aspiring journalist who secures a job as an assistant to Miranda Priestly, a formidable fashion magazine editor portrayed by Meryl Streep. Although Hudson was not part of the film, she has starred in several other popular titles including The Skeleton Key, You, Me and Dupree, Fool’s Gold, My Best Friend’s Girl, and Bride Wars.
Additionally, reports from Puck indicate that a sequel to The Devil Wears Prada is currently in the early stages of development by Disney. Aline Brosh McKenna, the original screenwriter, is collaborating with producer Wendy Finerma on the script. However, details concerning the plot or the cast’s potential return—including Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, Stanley Tucci, and Anne Hathaway—remains unconfirmed, leaving the project’s future somewhat uncertain.
