Katy Perry, Gayle King, and Others Set for Blue Origin Space Mission
In an exciting development for space tourism, renowned singer Katy Perry and CBS anchor Gayle King will join Lauren Sanchez, fiancée of Jeff Bezos, on the upcoming crewed mission of Blue Origin. The launch, which is scheduled for this spring, will mark yet another significant step for the company in its efforts to make space travel accessible to more individuals.
Blue Origin made the announcement on Thursday, revealing the complete six-member crew for its New Shepard rocket mission. Alongside Perry, King, and Sanchez, the crew will feature aerospace engineer Aisha Bowe, film producer Kerianne Flynn, and Amanda Nguyen, a bioastronautics research scientist recognized for her work in civil rights activism. This diverse group reflects the increasing interest in space exploration among various sectors of society.
The upcoming mission will represent the 11th human flight for Blue Origin’s New Shepard program. Each journey aboard the New Shepard typically lasts around 10 minutes, during which passengers experience a brief journey past the edge of space, allowing them to float in a state of microgravity for a few minutes before safely returning to Earth.
Blue Origin has already demonstrated its capabilities through previous missions, including those that carried Bezos and iconic Canadian actor William Shatner into space. As of now, the New Shepard program has successfully flown a total of 52 individuals beyond the confines of our atmosphere, showcasing the company’s commitment to expanding human presence in space, according to the company.
This mission not only continues Blue Origin’s ambitious plans but also underscores a growing participation of high-profile individuals in the new era of space exploration. With each launch, the allure of space travel becomes more prominent, potentially paving the way for future developments in commercial spaceflight.
