Kayla Stewart Appointed Senior Editor at Eater
Eater has appointed Kayla Stewart, an acclaimed food and travel journalist with a James Beard Award to her name, as its new senior editor. In her new position, Stewart will join a dedicated team of nine at Eater.com, focusing on narratives related to cuisine and culture. Her responsibilities will involve collaborating with both internal staff and freelance writers to enhance national stories on food trends, dining experiences, and culinary culture.
Eater’s executive editor, Erin DeJesus, emphasized Stewart’s profound storytelling ability, saying, “Kayla’s passion for storytelling is evident in all of her work, as is the reverence she holds for food and its role in the human experience. I’m so excited for Kayla to bring her curiosities and obsessions to our readers.” This marks a significant step for Eater, as they aim to deepen their exploration of food narratives under Stewart’s leadership.
Stewart’s extensive background includes contributions to prestigious publications such as the New York Times, Washington Post, Travel & Leisure, Food & Wine, and Afar. Her range of topics has included cultural traditions surrounding food, from the vibrant king cake celebrations in New Orleans to the rich Afro-Brazilian culinary heritage in Salvador, Brazil. In addition, she co-authored the NYT bestselling cookbook Gullah Geechee Home Cooking with Emily Meggett and received the 2023 James Beard Award for Profile Writing for her impactful piece in Food & Wine. Most recently, Stewart served as interim editor for Eater Houston, showcasing her abilities in an editorial capacity.
