Keely Hodgkinson secured gold in the women’s 800m final at the Paris Olympics.
Keely Hodgkinson of Team GB has confirmed that she is concluding her 2024 season early due to an injury.
Dominating the track, Hodgkinson maintained an undefeated streak in all nine of her 800m races this year. Following her successful campaign in Paris, she had ambitions to break the longstanding world record of 1:53.28, established by Czech legend Jarmila Kratochvilova in 1983.
The Manchester native shared her situation with fans on Instagram, stating:
“No more races for me!! Unfortunately I picked up a small injury, but we achieved everything I had hoped to do this year, thank you for all the love and support!! See you on the track next year.”
This year has also seen Hodgkinson successfully defend her European Championship title in Rome, and she set a new national record during the Diamond League meeting in London, shortly before the Paris Games.
Looking ahead, Hodgkinson aims to secure gold at the World Championships in 2025, having previously claimed two silver medals at the event. Tokyo will play host to the championships, and Hodgkinson’s sights are set on upgrading her podium finishes to gold.
