Election Season Heats Up in Kelowna, B.C.

With the federal election looming just a month away, the political landscape in Kelowna, B.C., is becoming increasingly active.

Tracy Gray, the Conservative Member of Parliament for the former riding of Kelowna—Lake Country, is actively campaigning for re-election in the newly designated Kelowna riding. Having served the area for nearly six years, Gray is keen to emphasize her dedication to the community and her role in Ottawa.

“It has been a privilege to represent our community and advocate for our residents in Ottawa, ensuring their voices are heard,” Gray remarked.

However, she will be facing familiar competition in the form of Steven Fuhr, a former Liberal MP who previously held the seat in 2015 before being defeated by Gray. Fuhr is making a comeback, positioning this election cycle as pivotal for the nation.

“This is an all-hands-on-deck moment for the country,” Fuhr stated. “Like many Canadians, I feel compelled to take action, and I believe running for the Liberal Party is the best way I can contribute.”

Adding to the mix is first-time candidate Trevor McAleese from the NDP, who aims to represent voices that he believes have been marginalized by the larger political parties. As a lifelong resident of the Okanagan, McAleese aims to connect with constituents who feel overlooked.

“There’s a significant opportunity to engage with people who feel neglected by the traditional parties. Their concerns are often not addressed by the Liberals or Conservatives,” McAleese commented.

As the election date approaches, critical issues have surfaced, including housing affordability, addiction, homelessness, and the impact of U.S. political policies on Canada. Each candidate is poised to address these pressing matters in their campaigns.
