A family in Kelowna, British Columbia, is grappling with ongoing anxiety over a series of unsettling incidents occurring outside their home for over a year. Fearing possible retaliation, they have chosen to remain anonymous.
“My sense of safety has diminished,” expressed the daughter of the household. “I feel anxious about what could potentially happen next.”
The troubling events reportedly began more than a year ago, when a group of youths began to target their residence. The incidents have escalated to include loud bangs against windows and doors, scraping sounds, and even rocks being thrown at the property, predominantly at night.
“One night, as I was preparing for bed, I had my blinds open when I was startled by intense banging on my bedroom window,” the daughter recounted. “It was terrifying—I genuinely believed someone was trying to break in.”
The situation took a turn for the worse recently, as the father described how the teenagers returned to harass them multiple times in one evening. “It was the first time they’ve started up again this year. They pounded on our home repeatedly, every half hour—scraping and banging on our windows,” he said.
The disturbances prompted a response from the Kelowna Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). “Some of the youths appeared to have fled the scene,” noted Cpl. Michael Gauthier from the RCMP. “Our officers remained in the area, and the individuals did not return after the second report.”
As the investigation is still ongoing, police have yet to identify the young culprits. They are urging community members to report any questionable behavior, especially sightings of youths wandering aimlessly late at night. “If residents notice young people hanging around at odd hours, we encourage them to contact us,” Gauthier emphasized. “We will look into it.”
The family believes that the masked youths have been intimidating other neighbors in the Kettle Valley area, indicating that their experience may not be an isolated incident. “This isn’t merely the actions of rambunctious kids; this is outright harassment,” the father asserted. “This goes beyond innocent mischief—it’s banging on your house with such force that it rattles everything and instills a genuine fear.”
