Ken Fulk Unveils New Retail Space at the Magic Factory
Last week, celebrated designer Ken Fulk opened the doors of his San Francisco headquarters, aptly named the Magic Factory, to over 175 guests from the industry. The evening was a blend of fine drinks and elegance, marking a special occasion as attendees gathered to experience the launch of the 14,000-square-foot space’s new retail offerings. Among those present were AD West Coast editor Mayer Rus and members of the Bay Area AD PRO Directory, all eager to celebrate this significant milestone.
Rus eloquently described the Magic Factory, a former leather goods factory now transformed into a design studio, as a hub for notable events over the years. The venue not only serves as Fulk’s creative workspace but also houses a dedicated team of 90 professionals, including interior designers, architects, and branding specialists.
The recent additions have made the Magic Factory a portal into the sophisticated world of Ken Fulk, with the new retail area showcasing exclusive collaborations with leading brands such as The Rug Company, Pierre Frey, and The Urban Electric Co. The space also features curated selections from smaller makers in home décor, gardening, jewelry, and more. For those interested in visiting, the studio operates by appointment only, which can be arranged by emailing shop@kenfulk.com. An exciting highlight from the evening included the launch of an exclusive candle—Ken Fulk No. 176—infusing the room with a captivating aroma of cedarwood and jasmine petals.
Event cohosts Mayer Rus and Ken Fulk greeted guests amidst a vibrant atmosphere, as documented by photographer Drew Altizer. The ambiance featured custom scents and distinct decor, further enhancing the experience.
This San Francisco location represents Fulk’s second retail venture in a matter of months, following the launch of a similar space in West Hollywood last fall. Fulk drew inspiration for the LA showroom’s wood-paneled and treillaged interiors from Bunny Mellon, who has greatly influenced his aesthetic vision. In San Francisco, visitors are greeted by a striking basil green façade, leading into multiple themed vignettes adorned with vintage furnishings and Fulk’s exclusive designs.
The guest list for the engaging evening included notable figures such as photographer Douglas Friedman and designers Tineke Triggs and Scott Formby, as well as Fulk’s cherished dogs. Guests enjoyed refreshing cocktails paired with delectable dishes crafted by chef Jennifer Carvaly from Mill Valley, all set to the rhythms provided by a DJ. Rus remarked, “Ken demonstrated once again why he’s the ultimate host,” highlighting Fulk’s dual talent as a retailer and an exceptional entertainer.
