Ken Jennings Shares His Impressive Tie Collection as Host of Jeopardy!
For enthusiasts of Jeopardy!, one notable quality of host Ken Jennings is his fashionable sense. Transitioning from player to host, Jennings recently opened up about an intriguing aspect of his wardrobe: the impressive number of ties he owns.
On April 15, Jennings took to Instagram, posting a photo in front of his neatly organized ties and dress shirts. Dressed in a striking red polka-dot button-up with a white T-shirt underneath, he humorously addressed a common inquiry among audience members: “How many ties do you have?” He encouraged followers to start counting.
In the comments, one user noted, “I have 152 on my ‘Ken Ties’ spreadsheet, but I lost track of the new ones this season!!” Another commented, “I love your tie collection! I always check them out. I checked out Alex’s ties also,” referencing former host Alex Trebek’s famous collection.
As more fans chimed in, guesses about the total varied widely, with one person estimating it to be “around 60,” while another quipped, “What is….. a lot!” Despite speculation, nobody correctly guessed the exact number.
On April 17, Jennings clarified the mystery by revealing the total. He credited Steven Zimbelman, the head costumer at Jeopardy!, for his stylish choices. With a photo of himself alongside Zimbelman, Jennings shared, “He tells me the answer to yesterday’s question is 198 total ties, including an archive of Alex-era ones that we break out sometimes.”
Zimbelman has served as the stylist and key costumer for Jeopardy! since June 2015, following his work with Trebek. According to his LinkedIn profile, he also has a background in costume design for Universal Studios and the film *Love and Mercy*. Zimbelman graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre/Costume Design from San Francisco State University in 1980.
Fans have expressed their admiration for Zimbelman’s work, with one stating, “He does an incredible job, and I adore that you inherited him from Alex. Your hot pink ties are my fave!”
In addition to his extensive tie collection, a Reddit discussion indicated that Jennings has around 24 suits. According to a fan who attended a taping, “They are owned by Sony and kept at the studio. I got the impression he isn’t super involved in the wardrobe decisions.” This indicates a seamless continuation of a legacy that not only honors Trebek’s memory but also allows Jennings’ distinct style to shine through on the iconic game show.
