St. Louis to Honor Theatre Legend Ken Page with Memorial Celebration
As the community prepares to remember beloved Broadway star Ken Page, a historic venue in his hometown of St. Louis will pay tribute by dimming its marquee lights.
The Community Celebration & Memorial for Ken Page is scheduled to take place at 7:30 p.m. CDT on April 11 at the Sheldon Concert Hall, located in the Grand Center. For those unable to attend in person, The Muny has announced that friends and fans from around the globe can participate via a livestream available at muny.org.
Meanwhile, in New York City, a special tribute will unfold as an “in memoriam” message is displayed outside the Shubert Theatre from 6:30 to 6:47 p.m. EDT on the same day. During this time, the theatre’s marquee lights will be completely turned off from 6:45 to 6:47 p.m. EDT, marking a moment of remembrance for Page.
For those looking to attend the local memorial, a limited number of free seats are still available at metrotix.com. Any leftover tickets will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis starting at 7:30 p.m. on April 11 at the Sheldon.
The evening promises to be filled with joy and nostalgia, featuring performances and recollections from Page’s fellow artists and friends, both from St. Louis and the Broadway community.
Ken Page’s contributions to Broadway were significant, with memorable performances in Shubert Organization theatres, including iconic roles in productions such as *Guys and Dolls* at the Broadway Theatre, *Cats* at the Winter Garden Theatre, *Ain’t Misbehavin’* at The Ambassador Theatre, and *The Wiz* at the Majestic Theatre.
Page passed away at the age of 70 on September 30. A proud graduate of Bishop DuBourg High School and a former long-time resident of St. Louis, he made his Muny debut in 1972 and appeared in over 45 Muny productions, with his latest role as the Bishop of Digne in the 2024 staging of *Les Misérables*.
In addition to his stage work, Page was renowned for his voice acting as Mr. Oogie Boogie in the Tim Burton classic *The Nightmare Before Christmas*, performing its score live internationally. His film repertoire also includes notable appearances in *Dreamgirls*, *Torch Song Trilogy*, and *All Dogs Go to Heaven*.
