FEFKA Offers Shine Tom Chacko Final Opportunity for Behavioral Correction Amid Drug Allegations
Actor Shine Tom Chacko has been granted a final opportunity by the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) to amend his behavior following serious allegations from actress Vincy Aloshious. She accused him of misbehavior while allegedly under the influence of drugs, leading to significant scrutiny within the film industry.
At a press conference, FEFKA General Secretary B. Unnikrishnan announced that this last chance was extended to Chacko at his own request, emphasizing his youth and talent as reasons why he should not instantly be viewed as a criminal.
“Those who struggle with addiction deserve a chance to rehabilitate,” Unnikrishnan stated, highlighting the importance of a humane approach to personal crises. However, he stressed that this compassion should not be misconstrued as a sign of weakness.
Unnikrishnan outlined FEFKA’s firm stance on these issues, making it clear that collaboration with Chacko would only continue if he addresses the allegations effectively. “He has assured us that he is committed to resolving the matter,” he added.
Following Aloshious’s complaint, FEFKA reached out to the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), communicating that production would face severe difficulties if such behaviors persisted among members. The actor’s alleged actions have created an atmosphere of concern regarding the future of Malayalam cinema.
Unnikrishnan noted a worrying trend, stating that film production in the Malayalam cinema sector has decreased by 45% in the last six months. This decline is attributed to hesitance from established producers and corporations to invest in the current volatile environment.
He remarked that the perception of the industry being plagued by drug-related issues tarnishes its image significantly. “If this continues, we may witness a complete stagnation in the industry within the next few months,” he warned, emphasizing the adverse effect on public sentiment.
The controversies surrounding Chacko escalated recently when he was arrested and subsequently released on bail after reportedly fleeing a hotel during a raid conducted by a District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF) team.
Chacko has been charged under several sections: section 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for the disappearance of evidence, as well as sections 27 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which address drug consumption and conspiracy, respectively.
The allegations from Vincy Aloshious emerged just before these legal troubles, as she informed the Film Chamber of Chacko’s “inappropriate behavior” on set while under the influence of drugs. The actress also submitted her concerns to AMMA regarding Chacko’s conduct on the unreleased film ‘Soothravakyam’, though she has not involved law enforcement at this stage.
In response to the growing scandal, the Kerala government has indicated that it takes the accusations against Chacko seriously and is actively involving its police and excise departments in addressing the situation.
Notably, the Ernakulam Additional Sessions Court recently acquitted Chacko in a separate drug case from 2015, citing failures in police procedure during the initial arrest and seizure of evidence.
