Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday visit Jallianwala Bagh to pay tribute to massacre victims. Kesari Chapter 2, directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, centers on C Sankaran Nair’s quest for justice.
As the release of Kesari Chapter 2 approaches, lead actors Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday took a significant step away from promotional activities to honor the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre in Amritsar. This act of remembrance served as a poignant reflection on one of the darkest chapters in India’s colonial history.
The massacre occurred on April 13, 1919, when thousands of peaceful protesters, who had gathered to celebrate Baisakhi, were ruthlessly fired upon by British troops under General Dyer’s orders. The shooting lasted until the soldiers had exhausted their ammunition, resulting in a tragic loss of life. In the aftermath, many individuals attempted to escape by leaping into a well located on the premises, only to face a grim fate. This year marks the 106th anniversary of this tragic event.
The actors’ visit was not merely an act of remembrance; it also connects deeply with the narrative of Kesari Chapter 2. The film tells the story of C Sankaran Nair, a prominent member of the Viceroy’s Council who resigned in protest following the massacre. Nair’s journey includes his bold decision to pursue legal action against the British government, which he accused of committing genocide. The film shines a light on his tireless fight for justice and the significant personal sacrifices he endured to bring accountability to the British Crown.
During their homage, the cast discussed the importance of shedding light on this lesser-known chapter of India’s struggle for independence. They expressed the belief that Nair’s contributions have often gone unrecognized and deserve broader acknowledgment.
At a recent promotional event, Akshay Kumar articulated his hope that the film might encourage an official apology from the British government. He responded to controversial comments made by General Dyer’s descendant, who referred to the massacre’s victims as “looters.” Akshay remarked, “I hope she watches this film and comprehends the reality of that tragic day.”
Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, Kesari Chapter 2 features Akshay Kumar in a leading role, alongside R Madhavan and Ananya Panday, who play key characters. The film is produced by a distinguished team, including Hiroo Yash Johar, Aruna Bhatia, Karan Johar, Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta, Amritpal Singh Bindra, and Anand Tiwari. It is presented by Dharma Productions, Cape of Good Films, and Leo Media Collective, with the screenplay crafted by Karan Singh Tyagi and Amritpal Singh Bindra.
With a compelling storyline, emotional depth, and a mission to unveil untold stories of history, Kesari Chapter 2 transcends the conventional bounds of cinema, serving as a tribute, a historical truth, and a beacon of remembrance.
