Akshay Kumar’s Kesari Chapter 2 Opens at Rs 7.5 Crore, Lagging Behind Sky Force’s Rs 12.25 Crore Day-One Collection
Kesari Chapter 2: The Untold Story of Jallianwala Bagh, featuring notable actors Akshay Kumar, R. Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, has been building anticipation as one of the key Bollywood releases of the season. Directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, a newcomer to the directorial scene, this historical courtroom drama has debuted to encouraging reviews alongside a respectable box office performance on its first day.
According to early projections from Sacnilk, Kesari Chapter 2 achieved a gross of just over Rs 7.5 crore on its opening day. The film experienced a 17.40% occupancy rate for Hindi screenings on its first Friday. Morning shows brought in a 12.67% occupancy, rising to 19.76% for the afternoon and evening slots, suggesting a hopeful increase throughout the day.
Despite positive audience reactions and its engaging historical context, the film’s opening day revenue fell short of that of Akshay Kumar’s earlier release, Sky Force, which collected Rs 12.25 crore upon its debut in January.
Kesari Chapter 2 delves into the tragic events of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, showcasing Kumar in the role of C. Sankaran Nair, a lawyer who bravely confronted the British Raj in court and sought justice. R. Madhavan portrays Advocate Neville McKinley, while Ananya Panday plays journalist Dilreet Gill.
The film has garnered acclaim for its impactful performances and engaging storylines. A review from News18 highlighted, “Akshay as Sankaran Nair presents a commanding presence. His recent films haven’t showcased his full potential, except for Sudha Kongara’s Sarfira, which hinted at the exceptional actor beneath the stardom. In Kesari Chapter 2, Akshay elevates his performance significantly, shedding his superstar persona to focus on his acting skills, delivering a truly outstanding performance.”
With production credits going to Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective, and Cape of Good Films, there is potential for Kesari Chapter 2 to gain traction at the box office over the weekend if the positive word-of-mouth continues to attract audiences.
