Kevin Hart brought laughter and energy to the NPR Tiny Desk concert series with a lively 10-minute rap performance, showcasing his comedic alter ego, Chocolate Droppa. This performance, which coincided with April Fool’s Day, marks Hart’s return to the stage nearly a decade after he previously collaborated with artists such as Nick Jonas, Trey Songz, and T.I. on Droppa’s only mixtape.
Immediately after beginning his set, Hart paused the music, creating a moment of anticipation before delivering a playful dedication. “I’m in all-black ’cause this is a funeral. It ain’t mine, it’s theirs. You know who I’m talking to. At the end of the day it’s headshots. If the target fits,” he quipped, adding dramatic flair by mimicking gunshot sounds. “Only time they have someone on Tiny Desk with no fucking track, I’m off the dome. Forget a DJ!”
Hart took the time to acknowledge his band, the Band of Brothas, whom he humorously claimed to have encountered outside the venue before the show. “I hear a lot of rappers talking but they not barking. I bark. I’m a big dog and I want to eat the big bone… The big dog takes that bone and I’ma eat off the bone and you gon’ watch me eat off the bone,” he declared, embodying the confidence of his rap persona.
Continuing with his humorous style, Droppa performed “West Coast,” delivering comedic lyrics over a funky beat while incorporating playful hand movements. True to his comedic nature, Hart halted the rhythm midway, teasing the audience that they weren’t “ready, man.”

Droppa then shifted gears with “Love Song,” reflecting on themes of longing and self-perception. “I’m bigger than you. I’m different, I’m bigger than you,” he rapped, punctuating the line with humor by referencing his masculinity. Throughout the performance, it appeared Hart was improvising some of his lyrics, maintaining a spontaneous and engaging atmosphere.
