Kevin Hart Opens Up About Family, Fitness, and Overcoming Adversity
This week on 60 Minutes, correspondent Anderson Cooper offered viewers an in-depth look at the multifaceted life of comedian and entertainment mogul Kevin Hart. The segment illustrated not only Hart’s professional endeavors but also provided a glimpse into his personal life and the challenges he has faced along the way.
During the segment, Cooper shadowed Hart in Los Angeles, including a notable visit to the set of a Fabletics ad campaign, where he was accompanied by his daughter, Heaven Hart. Their interaction highlighted a candid moment regarding the dynamic between Hart’s comedy and fatherhood.
Heaven expressed her discomfort with some of the jokes her father includes about her in his stand-up routines, revealing that there have been instances where she learned about these anecdotes only after they had been broadcast. “Why is he blowin’ my business out there?” she quipped to Cooper. “He’s a sneaky little guy,” highlighting the relatable tension many children feel with their parents’ public personas.
In response to his daughter’s feelings, Kevin acknowledged that as children grow, parents must adapt their behavior and boundaries. “So, I haven’t talked about her since ’cause she gave me, like, a hard threat,” he shared, demonstrating his willingness to adjust in light of Heaven’s input. Heaven playfully confirmed his statement, adding, “I did. I threatened him.”
Cooper also joined Hart for an early morning workout session, which he found to be quite challenging. The session was led by Hart’s personal trainer, Ron “Boss” Everline. Cooper described the environment as overwhelmingly hot, dubbing it a “sweatbox” due to the elevated temperature of the room.
Hart is well-known for his rigorous fitness routine, often rising at dawn to exercise. Reflecting on his commitment, Cooper noted, “I think Kevin Hart actually does work out every day. He’s in really, really good shape.”
While enjoying tremendous success in the entertainment sphere, Hart did not shy away from discussing the difficulties he faced earlier in life. Raised in a tough area of North Philadelphia, Hart’s upbringing was complicated by his father’s struggles with drug addiction and his sporadic presence in Hart’s life. Financially, Hart depended heavily on his mother, Nancy Hart, as he forged his path in comedy.
Despite these challenges, Hart views his past with gratitude, emphasizing the importance of every experience that shaped him. “I would not change anything, every piece of good, every piece of bad… you feel like things are supposed to happen and they’re supposed to be perfect. It’s not supposed to be,” he reflected, recognizing the value in every stage of his life journey.
Hart’s story is one of resilience and adaptation, showcasing not just his comedy career but also his evolution as a father and individual on a continuous path of personal growth.
