(Reuters) – On Saturday, Iranian state television reported that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, engaged in discussions with Khalil al-Hayya, the acting leader of Hamas, along with two other representatives from the Palestinian organization, during their visit to Tehran.
Khamenei lauded Hamas’s efforts against Israel, stating, “You defeated the Zionist regime, which was in fact America’s defeat. You did not allow them to achieve any of their goals.” This statement underscores Iran’s long-standing support for Hamas in its ongoing conflict with Israel.
The meeting coincided with the anniversary celebration of the 1979 Iranian revolution, prompting the Palestinian delegation to express their appreciation for Iran’s unwavering support. Iranian state media indicated that the leaders conveyed their congratulations to Khamenei during this significant occasion.

The delegation included prominent figures such as Mohammad Darwish, head of Hamas’ leadership council, and senior Hamas official Nizar Awadallah. They provided Khamenei with an assessment of the situation in Gaza and the West Bank, highlighting the achievements and progress made by Hamas in their activities.
According to reports, al-Hayya expressed pride in their meeting with Khamenei, further emphasizing the solidarity between Hamas and Iran.
In response to U.S. threats directed at Iran, Khamenei asserted that such pressures “have no effect on the mindset of our nation,” reflecting the resilience of the Iranian leadership amidst external challenges.
