Ellen’s Stardust Diner is set to participate in this year’s Kids’ Night on Broadway, collaborating with Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS to create a special offering for families.
On August 20th, any guest who presents Broadway tickets at the diner will benefit from a generous offer: children under 18 can enjoy a complimentary meal with the purchase of an adult entrée. It is important to note that the kids’ meals must be of equal or lesser value compared to the adult meal purchased.
Discovering Ellen’s Stardust Diner
Located at 1650 Broadway at the intersection with 51st Street in Manhattan’s vibrant Theater District, Ellen’s Stardust Diner captures a nostalgic 1950s vibe.
This establishment is celebrated as one of New York City’s quintessential theme restaurants, filled with a plethora of retro memorabilia. Guests can admire framed photographs of former Miss Subways, an indoor train, a vintage 1956 Predicta television, and a “drive-in theater” screen displaying performances reminiscent of the 1950s. The atmosphere is a favorite for both kids and adults, making it a family-friendly destination.
Since its opening in 1987, Ellen’s Stardust Diner has maintained its status as the first 1950s-themed restaurant in New York. The waitstaff famously donned poodle skirts, enhancing the immersive experience. In the late 1990s, the diner expanded with a sister establishment called Stardust Dine-O-Mat, located near Times Square.
The diner has a proven track record of nurturing talent, with many former singing waitstaff achieving remarkable success on Broadway and in popular contests like American Idol. Numerous alumni have garnered critical acclaim through original productions at the New York Musical Theater Festival. Notable figures such as Brandon Ellis, Eric Michael Krop, Stephen Tyler Davis, and Alysha Umphress have all launched their careers as singing waitstaff at Ellen’s Stardust Diner. Its reputation as a talent incubator is well-deserved, with many former employees appearing in major productions on Broadway and notable off-Broadway shows like Avenue Q, Jersey Boys, The Lion King, South Pacific, In The Heights, On The Town, Wicked, and Godspell.
