The Disappearance of Kierra Stubbs: A Mother’s Ongoing Mystery
It has been over a decade since Kierra Stubbs vanished without a trace. The young mother from Birmingham, Alabama, disappeared on April 24, 2014, sending ripples of concern throughout her community. As investigators continue to seek answers, the case remains open and unresolved nearly 11 years later.
On January 16, 2025, the Birmingham Police Department (BPD) executed a search warrant at Stubbs’ former residence. The operation involved a thorough inspection of the property, including a dig in the yard, as authorities sought to uncover any evidence related to her disappearance. Despite heightened anticipation and speculation on social media, no human remains were found during this extensive search, and both the BPD and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office stated the effort was unsuccessful.
The search resumed the following day, with investigators employing an excavator and moving debris, yet they uncovered nothing significant. Officer Truman Fitzgerald acknowledged the family’s prolonged suffering, stating, “We cannot begin to imagine the challenges and anguish that Kierra’s family has faced over the past 10-plus years.”
Lead Detective Jonathan Ross, who has been dedicated to the case since taking over from Detective Rodney Rogers in 2019, has vowed to pursue every possible avenue to solve the mystery surrounding Stubbs’ disappearance. Kierra’s aunt, Shonte Stubbs, voiced her frustration with the investigation, reflecting on the long duration of uncertainty. She recalled that this same property had been checked years ago but expressed disappointment that the authorities are only now taking more decisive action.
Kierra’s disappearance began with a seemingly ordinary day. Her brother had driven her to the Five Points West Boost Mobile store to meet a familiar acquaintance who had offered assistance with her car. In a troubling turn, Kierra entered a burgundy Chrysler 200 with this man and was never seen again. Despite being questioned, he was not arrested, leaving many questions unanswered.
Descriptive memories from family members paint a picture of Kierra as a loving, humorous individual, deeply devoted to her family and children. Her aunt described her as someone who simply wanted to work and be with her loved ones. Reflecting on the family’s plight, Kierra’s grandmother, Ora Stubbs, expressed a profound sense of injustice, stating, “For us to go through this hell for eight years and no justice. You know the justice system has failed us.”
The ongoing investigation and renewed efforts to locate Kierra Stubbs serve as a poignant reminder of the countless families affected by similar tragedies. Law enforcement continues to urge anyone with information regarding Stubbs’ case to come forward, providing a contact number for tips that could lead to breaking this decade-long silence.
Anyone with relevant information is encouraged to contact Detective Jonathan Ross at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777, where anonymous tips can be rewarded with cash up to $5,000.
