Kim Kardashian is facing legal action after a social media mistake identified an innocent man as a death row inmate, resulting in a lawsuit from the individual involved.

The lawsuit, which was reported by TMZ, is brought forth by Ivan Cantu, a project manager from New York. Cantu claims that Kardashian mistakenly identified him as a death penalty inmate from Texas in a social media post.

In February 2024, Kim shared a photo of the wrong Ivan Cantu while attempting to raise awareness for another inmate with the same name. Cantu alleges that this error caused him significant public embarrassment, shame, and ridicule.

Cantu is pursuing charges of libel and slander against Kardashian, stating that the incident has inflicted serious emotional distress on him.

According to Cantu, the fallout from Kardashian’s post led to sleep disturbances, headaches, nightmares, and symptoms consistent with PTSD. He claims that his reputation has been damaged and that he has sought medical attention and emotional counseling as a result.

Previously, Ivan vocalized his frustrations, implying that an “idiot” who runs her social media accounts was responsible for the mix-up which involved his picture instead of the intended death row inmate, Ivan “Abner” Cantu. It is worth noting that the latter was executed as scheduled.

Despite Kardashian eventually removing the post, Cantu argues that the damage had already been done due to her vast following, potentially reaching hundreds of millions. He is now seeking monetary compensation for the hardships he endured.

Attempts to contact Kardashian’s representatives for a statement have so far gone unanswered.
