King Charles Takes on DJ Role with New Apple Music Show
In a surprising twist to his royal duties, King Charles has embraced the world of music as a DJ. Officially announced on March 6, the British monarch is set to debut a new radio program on Apple Music called The King’s Music Room. The show, recorded in the regal surroundings of his office at Buckingham Palace, will highlight the King’s diverse musical tastes, spanning from the “crooners of the 1930s to contemporary Afrobeats, along with disco and reggae legends,” according to a recent announcement.
In a trailer unveiled for the show, the King shares his musical journey while seated behind his desk. “Throughout my life, music has meant a great deal to me,” he reflects. “It possesses a unique power to evoke joyous memories, provide solace in sorrowful times, and transport us to far-off places. Most notably, it has the ability to uplift our spirits, especially when it unites us in celebration,” he adds.
The King expresses his intention to share songs that have brought him happiness, describing the initiative as a unique way to commemorate this year’s Commonwealth Day. “It brings us joy,” he emphasizes, revealing his excitement about sharing this aspect of his life with the audience.
According to a press release, the show aims to be influenced by King Charles’ extraordinary global experiences, allowing him to share personal stories connected to the featured artists. The lineup includes notable names such as Bob Marley, Kylie Minogue, Grace Jones, Davido, and RAYE, among others.
Rachel Newman, Apple Music’s global head of content and editorial, commented on the collaboration, stating, “Human curation has always been a key pillar of our unique editorial approach. Apple Music Radio is where culture is happening worldwide, and we are honored that King Charles III chose to share his personal playlist with us and with music fans around the globe.”
The King’s Music Room is set to premiere on Apple Music 1 and Apple Music Hits at 6 a.m. GMT on Monday, March 10, with additional airtimes scheduled for later that day and the following Tuesday, March 11.
