Kiss Me, Kate Revival to Premiere on PBS

The acclaimed revival of Kiss Me, Kate, featuring Tony Award winner Stephanie J. Block, is set to make its debut on PBS as part of the channel’s Great Performances series. Viewers can tune in to watch the production on Friday, May 30 at 9 p.m. ET. This recent iteration previously graced U.S. movie theaters in November 2024 following its run at London’s Barbican Theatre, where it concluded on September 14.

Kiss Me, Kate, infused with the charming lyrics of Cole Porter, seamlessly blends elements of Broadway musical comedy with references to Shakespeare and the theatrical mischief reminiscent of Noises Off. The production is directed by Bartlett Sher and showcases a talented ensemble of over 50 performers, including a full orchestral experience. Audiences can look forward to enjoying timeless classics such as “Another Op’nin’, Another Show,” “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” and “Tom, Dick or Harry.”

In addition to Kiss Me, Kate, PBS will also broadcast Roundabout Theatre Company’s Yellow Face and the Broadway musical Girl from the North Country. More information about these upcoming broadcasts is available, detailing David Henry Hwang’s play and the musical inspired by Bob Dylan’s work.

Adrian Dunbar takes the stage as Fred Graham, while Stephanie J. Block makes her West End debut in the role of Lilli Vanessi. The cast also features Charlie Stemp as Bill Calhoun and Georgina Onuorah as Lois Lane. Additionally, Nigel Lindsay and Hammed Animashaun will portray the Gangsters, enriching the show’s dynamic with their performances.

The creative team behind this revival is distinguished, with Bartlett Sher at the helm as director, complemented by Anthony Van Laast’s choreography. The production’s artistic vision is further enhanced by the contributions of set designer Michael Yeargan, costume designer Catherine Zuber, lighting designer Donald Holder, sound designer Adam Fisher, and music supervisor Stephen Ridley, all of whom play a significant role in bringing this vibrant musical to life.
