KJ Apa Opens Up About His Role in “One Fast Move”
KJ Apa recently shared insights into his latest film, the action-drama “One Fast Move,” where he portrays a young man striving to reconnect with his estranged father while pursuing his dream of becoming a professional motorcycle racer.
In an interview with “Extra’s” Mona Kosar Abdi, KJ reflected on the challenges of learning to ride a motorcycle for his role and expressed his sentiments about his time on the long-running series “Riverdale,” which concluded last year after seven successful seasons.
“I love them. They’ll be a part of my life forever,” Apa remarked about his former castmates. “I’ll be there for them any day of the week. I look back fondly on each moment that has passed since the show wrapped up. I’m incredibly grateful for that experience; it brings a smile to my face daily.”
Delving deeper into “One Fast Move,” KJ emphasized the personal significance of the project, stating, “I’ll remember it for the rest of my life. I felt so connected to the story.” He described it as “the most enjoyable job” he has ever undertaken, expressing that he felt “blessed” to be a part of the production.
Nonetheless, KJ did admit to feeling a rush of fear during his initial experience on a motorcycle. He noted, “The first time I was on a bike, I was terrified. I didn’t understand how it all worked. I’ve always admired motorcycles from a distance, thinking them cool, but I was afraid of what it actually meant to ride one.”
It took KJ a couple of weeks of daily riding to gain confidence. He explained, “Riding motorcycles is a unique experience. Now, I feel quite comfortable on a bike, but when you’re on a racetrack, you have to maintain complete focus. There’s no room for distraction.”
He elaborated on the adrenaline of motorcycle racing, saying, “People who are drawn to racing are often addicted to that thrill and the constant edge of risk involved.”
While KJ utilized a stunt double for some of the more dangerous scenes, he performed a significant portion of the stunts himself. “I had a brilliant stunt double, Dave Cutler, who is exceptionally skilled. I was fortunate to have him, especially for the tougher stunts. There were definitely moments where I was relieved it wasn’t me falling off that bike,” he recounted. “I would be willing to take risks, but I also have a sense of caution that makes me grateful for someone else’s expertise, especially on this particular project that I cared so much about.”
Fans can look forward to watching “One Fast Move,” which will be available on Prime Video starting August 8.
