Klopotek Introduces STREAM-lite at Frankfurt Book Fair

This year’s Frankfurt Book Fair marks the launch of STREAM-lite, a robust software solution tailored for small to medium-sized publishers from the Klopotek team. CEO Peter Karwowski emphasizes that “STREAM-lite is built on the foundation of Klopotek STREAM,” which supports the world’s largest publishing houses. He describes STREAM-lite as a user-friendly, cost-effective tool designed to manage the complete lifecycle of a title, allowing publishers to concentrate on their primary mission of creating and distributing quality content, while the software handles backend processes.

STREAM-lite offers three distinct packages—Essentials, Standard, and Advanced with Add-ons—each crafted to implement professional business processes in smaller publishing environments. The Advanced Package, for example, integrates functionalities from both Essentials and Standard packages, enhanced by features that improve workflow management, communication, and production timelines across different departments. This flexibility allows publishers to easily upgrade their packages to accommodate growth and changing business needs.

From the initial concept to publication, STREAM-lite facilitates complete ONIX distribution and incorporates quality control measures to ensure accurate metadata. According to Karwowski, “No significant implementation or customization is necessary because all three packages operate on the Klopotek Public Cloud as preconfigured solutions,” ensuring a smooth onboarding experience thanks to an intuitive interface.

Klopotek is also set to reveal two strategic partnerships at the book fair. One such partnership is with Chaptr, an innovative AI company focused on enhancing the online discoverability of published works. James Whittaker, Chief Sales Officer, notes that increasing sales—particularly for backlist titles—remains a critical focus for publishers. He indicates that leveraging AI and improving metadata management could dramatically enhance discoverability in an increasingly crowded online marketplace, all while minimizing effort and expense.

Publishers will gain access to advanced AI-driven metadata optimization directly within the existing Klopotek platform, as noted by Philipp Nastaly, co-founder and CEO of Chaptr. He explains that this integration simplifies the optimization process for both back and front lists on major retail platforms like Amazon, enhancing visibility and boosting sales without requiring a complicated new system.

Chaptr’s Reedy tool allows users to refine metadata on a title-by-title basis or manage entire catalogs in bulk. Its sophisticated AI capabilities have previously demonstrated substantial results, including a reported 7% sales increase during testing with prominent publishers. Nastaly further assures that ongoing enhancements to the AI engine will continue to yield improved outcomes, with detailed case studies on Reedy’s effectiveness anticipated by year’s end.

The second of Klopotek’s new partnerships is with Libri, a leading book wholesaler in Germany. Whittaker highlights that Libri’s print-on-demand (POD) solutions empower publishers to refine their production processes by comparing costs of traditional printing and POD, particularly for limited runs and reprints. This collaboration streamlines order processing and file submissions directly through Klopotek’s systems, minimizing manual workload. Transitioning to POD allows publishers to lower inventory costs and act more sustainably while quickly making new titles available via Libri’s well-established logistics network. Klopotek aims to extend these operational efficiencies by partnering with additional POD service providers globally.

Klopotek’s CEO, Karwowski, emphasizes the importance of managing expenses amid current economic challenges, stating, “Our collaborations with Chaptr and Libri aim to help publishers decrease costs, enhance sales, and increase operational agility.”

On Thursday, October 17, at 1:30 p.m., Executive Director Brian O’Leary of BISG will join Klopotek and Chaptr for a keynote presentation titled “Streamlined Processes and Optimized Metadata: Driving the Future of Publishing,” in Hall 4.0, Stage 4.0. Attendees are encouraged to visit booth E32 within the same hall for further insights on Klopotek’s offerings.
