The 2025 MotoGP season kicked off on March 2 and has already seen its first three races, including the Grand Prix of Thailand, Argentina, and the United States. The upcoming event on the calendar is the Qatar GP, planned for April 11 to 13.

In preparation for this, several top-tier teams will gather for a two-day private test at the Misano track ahead of the official MotoGP testing scheduled for April 28 at Jerez. This official testing will occur immediately following the Spanish GP, as teams take advantage of remaining at the Andalusian circuit.

During these testing sessions, all participating teams and riders can operate without concession system restrictions, although they must adhere to tyre allocation limits throughout the season. Ducati riders are provided 170 tyres, while Aprilia and KTM receive 220, and Japanese manufacturers have the highest allocation at 260 tyres.

Nonetheless, some teams are eager to get out on track for extra laps before the official testing day in Spain.

KTM has confirmed its attendance at the upcoming private test in Misano, featuring their Spanish test riders, Pol Espargaro and Dani Pedrosa, both of whom have not been on the RC16 since the shakedown tests in Sepang back in early February.

Lorenzo Savadori, the test rider for Aprilia, will also be participating. He has been filling in for the injured Jorge Martin in recent races.

As of now, Ducati has not verified its participation in the Misano test. The team could take part in accordance with current concession regulations, utilizing test rider Michele Pirro, who also hasn’t been on track since the pre-season test in Sepang.

Honda’s Testing Plans Shift to Valencia

The two leading Japanese manufacturers, Yamaha and Honda, will not take part in this week’s test at Misano. Both teams hold the highest level of concessions, allowing them to conduct testing at any circuit with any rider as long as they adhere to tyre limits—an allocation rarely fully utilized in a season.

Honda had initially intended to hold a private test at Jerez two weeks ago, but significant flooding at the circuit led to the cancellation of this plan. They have rescheduled their test for the week following the Qatar GP, from April 14 to 18. However, due to a restriction period preventing them from testing so close to the Spanish GP, Honda will instead utilize the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia for this session.

In addition to the official MotoGP test on April 28 at Jerez, the 2025 season will include two additional official testing sessions for all riders and manufacturers: one on June 9 at MotorLand Aragon and another on September 15 at Misano, each occurring the day after a Grand Prix.
