Kushboo Sundar Expresses Discontent Over Role in Annaatthe

Actor Kushboo Sundar recently shared her feelings of disappointment related to her involvement in the 2021 film Annaatthe, which starred Rajinikanth and was helmed by director Siva. The film, which also featured noted actresses Meena and Nayanthara, did not achieve the box office success anticipated. Kushboo, who had a pivotal role, disclosed her dissatisfaction with the alterations made to her character during filming, which strayed from the original vision presented to her.

Kushboo’s Reflection on the Role

In a discussion with Vickey Lalwani, Kushboo was forthcoming about her experiences on the project. When asked if there were any roles she regretted accepting, she specifically pointed to her time on Annaatthe, stating, “A recent example is the movie that I did with Rajinikanth sir. The role didn’t turn out like it was sold to me. Eventually, there was no (on-screen) pairing with Rajini sir for me.”

Kushboo elaborated on the initial expectations set for her character before production commenced. She noted that it was communicated to her that she and Meena would have significant roles akin to heroines. “I accepted the project believing that there would be no other actor paired opposite Rajini sir and that we would be there throughout. It was a very happy-go-lucky, comical and fun-loving role,” she explained. However, as filming advanced, her expectations were not met.

Character Changes and Disappointment

As the project evolved, Kushboo observed significant changes. She recounted a turning point where it seemed Rajinikanth was introduced to a new heroine, leading to her character becoming more of a caricature. Reflecting on her experience during the dubbing phase, she mentioned, “After I saw the film while dubbing it, I was very disappointed.” She confirmed that Nayanthara was brought into the film later on as Rajinikanth’s romantic interest, which altered the dynamics of her own role.

Influence and Decisions Behind Casting

Kushboo addressed speculation surrounding whether Rajinikanth had any influence in the decision-making process regarding these casting changes. She firmly rejected the notion, stating, “He is not a person like that. I have known him for many years. I don’t know what exactly happened; maybe the fans demanded it or if the director and producer felt like getting a new heroine.” Furthermore, she revealed that both she and Meena had originally been slated to perform duet songs with Rajinikanth but noted that the project’s direction shifted over time, leading to the conclusion that a more traditional pairing was necessary.

Kushboo’s insights offer a glimpse into the complexities involved in film production, highlighting how creative visions can change and the impact it has on the artists involved.
