Behind the Scenes of “Wild Cards” with Kyle Richards, Vanessa Morgan, and Giacomo Gianniotti
Kyle Richards, Vanessa Morgan, and Giacomo Gianniotti recently shared insights into the upcoming episode of “Wild Cards” during an interview with Billy Bush of “Extra.” This episode is particularly special for Richards as she guest stars in a role that humorously mirrors her reality TV experiences.
The plot centers around Richards’ character, the star of a popular reality show featuring extravagant and backstabbing women, who finds herself in turmoil when her co-star is discovered murdered with a stiletto. This intriguing premise blends humor with drama, setting the stage for an engaging episode.
Discussing her return to television, Richards expressed her ongoing commitment to acting, despite her prominence as a cast member on “The Real Housewives” franchise. “I’ve maintained my presence in acting, intertwined with my ‘Housewives’ commitments, including my involvement in the ‘Halloween’ series and other guest appearances,” she stated. “It’s something I’ve always kept a foot in.” When prompted about her aspirations for the future, she affirmed her desire to focus more on scripted work, saying, “Yes… Eventually, I will be just acting and producing.”
Gianniotti elaborated on the decision to invite Richards onto the show: “Knowing we were creating an episode based on ‘Housewives’ themes, our team was thrilled to have Kyle on board,” he remarked. Initially, however, Richards was hesitant. “When they first approached me, I was unsure about taking on a role that mirrored being a ‘Housewife,’ but after reading the script and realizing how fun it was, I changed my mind, and I’m really glad I did,” she explained.
Richards emphasized the episode’s humorous elements, while also highlighting its dramatic undertones. Meanwhile, Vanessa Morgan, although not a regular viewer of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” admitted her admiration for Richards and expressed excitement about her participation in “Wild Cards.” “I’m a big fan, and I was ecstatic to hear she would be joining us,” she said.
Currently, Richards is also involved in the airing of Season 16’s reunion episodes of “RHOBH,” where she has found herself in various discussions with host Andy Cohen. Reflecting on the pressures of the reunion format, she shared her desire for a break after the long process. “We have two more episodes and then I can finally take a breather,” she said.
Billy Bush humorously pointed out the cycle of returning to the show. In response, Richards laughed and described her experience as akin to the mafia—difficult to escape. Morgan chimed in, praising Richards’ ability to handle the stressors of reality television, stating, “She’s literally the sweetest person; I can’t believe you have to deal with all this drama.”
Richards shared her aversion to conflict, lamenting, “I hate drama and confrontation — how did I end up here? Yet, here I am, almost 15 years in, still navigating this chaotic dance.”
The conversation also touched on the health struggles of her close friend and former co-star Teddi Mellencamp, who is undergoing treatment for stage 4 cancer. “She is having some tough days, especially with radiation and immunotherapy,” Richards stated, but she expressed confidence in Mellencamp’s resilience. “Teddi is incredibly strong, and I believe she will come through this,” she noted.
As for Mellencamp’s spirit during her fight, Richards confirmed her friend remains positive and uses humor to cope, likening it to a necessary survival tactic in tough times.
Richards recently returned from college visits for her daughter Portia in Texas, where an incident saw Portia suffer a concussion. “It was incredibly scary; she fell and hit her head, but thankfully she’s okay now,” Richards recounted, adding, “Parenting really isn’t for the faint of heart. But Portia still enjoyed her time in Texas.”
Catch “Wild Cards,” which airs Wednesdays on The CW, for a mix of humor and drama featuring Kyle Richards in a fresh role.
