Los Angeles police have released footage from the incident involving author Jillian Lauren, spouse of a Weezer band member, during a tumultuous backyard altercation that ended in gunfire.

During the shooting on April 8 in Eagle Rock, a neighborhood in northeast Los Angeles, Lauren sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The 51-year-old exited her residence armed as police and the California Highway Patrol searched for three individuals who had fled from a car accident.

In a separate clip from surveillance footage, Lauren is seen leaving her home barefoot while holding a pistol in her right hand.

Authorities have listed Lauren, known as Jillian Lauren Shriner, as a suspect in the attempted murder case and she was released on a $1 million bond. Her court appearance is scheduled for later this week.

On Friday, police made available segments from body camera footage, surveillance video, and audio recordings of 911 dispatch calls. These clips illustrate officers looking over a high wooden fence into a yard, urging a woman to lower her weapon before the situation escalates. The view of their body cameras is obstructed, preventing them from seeing what lies beyond the fence.

“Ma’am, we’re trying to help you. Put the gun down,” can be heard on the recording. “You’re going to get shot. It’s the police.”

An officer notes the woman has cocked her gun, saying, “Oh, she racked it,” just before several shots are heard.

In another section of the silent surveillance footage, Lauren is visible entering her yard barefoot once again, apparently brandishing a pistol. Another segment captures her raising the firearm before she turns and walks back toward her home.

Additional body camera footage reveals Lauren lying on the ground as officers place her in handcuffs, while they observe a wound on her arm.

Jillian Lauren is known for her two bestselling memoirs: 2010’s Some Girls: My Life in a Harem and 2015’s Everything You Ever Wanted.

Weezer, a band based in Los Angeles, gained a devoted following particularly for their 1994 album, often referred to as the “Blue Album,” which features the hit “Say It Ain’t So.” Scott Shriner joined the band in the early 2000s.
