Attention all readers, cultural enthusiasts, publicists, and award contenders! The fourth annual Las Culturistas Awards, hosted by the dynamic duo of Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, is set to make its televised debut on Tuesday, August 5. The event will air on Bravo and will be available for streaming the following day on Peacock. Originating from their widely celebrated podcast, the Las Culturistas Culture Awards honors “Culture’s most iconic and consequential moments of the year.” This year, the event boasts over 100 categories, live performances, and appearances by various celebrities. Since its inception in 2016, the podcast has welcomed notable guests, including Mariah Carey, Tina Fey, Ariana Grande, Amy Poehler, and Lady Gaga.
“Culture” is described as “the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively,” a definition mentioned by Rogers and Yang. They expressed their excitement about removing the “intellectual” aspect during the awards broadcast on Bravo and Peacock this August, in collaboration with Lionsgate. In a light-hearted manner, they quipped about the possibility of an Oscar-winning actress teaming up with a Real Housewife to present a significant award to Oprah, humorously asking, “Oprah, u up?!”
Jen Neal, the executive vice president of live events and specials at NBCUniversal Entertainment, expressed her enthusiasm for bringing the “Las Culturistas Culture Awards” to Bravo and Peacock. She highlighted the unique chemistry and humor of Matt and Bowen as integral to this lively awards show, which aims to redefine the celebration of culture.
The awards ceremony will be recorded in Los Angeles on July 17 and is produced and distributed globally by Lionsgate Alternative Television. Besides Rogers and Yang, a team of executive producers, including Lauren LeMieux, Jonah McMichael, Olivia Gerke from 3 Arts, and showrunner Jane Mun, are involved in the project’s development. The complete list of award categories will be revealed at a future date.
