Lauren Davis Promoted to Associate Chair at NYU’s Clive Davis Institute
Lauren Davis, an experienced attorney in the music industry, has received a promotion to associate chair of New York University’s Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music.
Davis has been a member of the full-time faculty since 2006, where she has been instrumental in teaching courses that cover the legal and business dynamics of the music industry, including vital topics such as intellectual property law. Additionally, she has shared her expertise on subjects like social entrepreneurship and the promotion of equity and inclusion within the music sector. As the director of professional development at the institute, she is responsible for overseeing Senior Year Professional Development courses, aimed at preparing students for careers in the music industry as they approach graduation.
With three decades of experience in music and entertainment law, Davis has represented a range of notable clients, including recording artists, songwriters, producers, and music publishers. In her capacity as a faculty senator for six years on NYU’s Faculty Council, she has been a strong advocate for faculty rights and interests.
Nick Sansano, the chair of the Clive Davis Institute, commended Davis for her steadfast dedication and motivational influence on students since the institute’s establishment.
“Her extensive knowledge in music business and law, combined with her dedication to policy, rights advocacy, and promoting gender equity within the music industry, have profoundly impacted the careers of many of our students and alumni,” Sansano noted. “Davis taking on the role of Associate Chair will significantly enhance her contribution to refining our curriculum and advancing our mission, marking a substantial benefit to our program.”
In response to her promotion, Davis expressed enthusiasm for her new responsibilities, highlighting the privilege she feels in mentoring future leaders in the industry over her 18-year tenure. She added that she is looking forward to collaborating closely with Nick Sansano as they collectively work on the Clive Davis Institute’s growth and enhancement in the future.
The Clive Davis Institute, named after the legendary music executive, offers an innovative Bachelor of Fine Arts program that merges business acumen with creative and intellectual exploration, as part of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts. Earlier this year, the institute celebrated its 20th anniversary and continues to be recognized in Billboard’s annual ranking of leading music business schools.
