LaVar Ball
Discusses Foot Amputation
… Attributes It to Diabetes Complications

LaVar Ball has shared details of his recent leg amputation, attributing the loss of a significant portion of his right leg to complications arising from diabetes. This revelation comes as he opens up about his health struggles in an interview.
In an interview with SLAM, the father of NBA players LiAngelo, LaMelo, and Lonzo recounted the onset of his health issues, which began to escalate around January.
Ball described an infection that developed on his foot during a time when his son Gelo’s single, “Tweaker,” was gaining attention. He noted that the infection worsened due to his failure to monitor his diabetes effectively, leading to severe complications.
As he explained, initial medical interventions involved the surgical removal of several toes, but the situation deteriorated further, ultimately requiring the amputation of his foot. “Then they said, ‘We gotta go almost knee high for another surgery,'” Ball recalled.
Over the course of his treatment, LaVar underwent three surgeries in total and received four blood transfusions as part of his recovery process. He admitted that the experience took a significant emotional toll, leading him to contemplate life and death at its worst moments.
“It made me think, ‘Man, just kill me and let me go about my business,'” Ball said, reflecting on his lowest points. He noted that there were times when he believed it might be best to “shut it down.”
Fortunately, it was the encouragement from his three sons that inspired him to continue his fight. As of now, he reported feeling much better and has been spotted recently enjoying life, sharing moments on TikTok where he playfully dances in his chair and modifies song lyrics for comedic effect.
Ball is now advocating for the importance of regular medical checkups, emphasizing that early intervention could have prevented his drastic health situation. “Get your checkups,” he urged. “If you don’t have insurance, go to urgent care. A little amputation and all of this could have been avoided.”
