Laverne Cox recently visited the Broadway production of The Great Gatsby, expressively sharing her admiration for fellow cast members Ryan McCartan and Sarah Hyland during her time there.
The Broadway cast features a talented ensemble including Ryan McCartan, Sarah Hyland, Michael Maliakel, Samantha Pauly, Charlie Pollock, Linedy Genao, Austin Colby, and Eric Anderson.
The Great Gatsby centers around the enigmatic and wealthy Jay Gatsby, whose relentless quest to reclaim a lost love, Daisy Buchanan, drives the narrative. This revamped principal cast marks a significant occasion, celebrating the 100th Anniversary of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s iconic novel, first published in 1925.
Under the direction of Marc Bruni, known for his work on Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, this adaptation weaves a tale of opulence and yearning. The choreography is crafted by Dominique Kelley of So You Think You Can Dance fame, while the script is penned by Kait Kerrigan, and the original score combines jazz and pop influences, created by Jason Howland and Nathan Tysen.
The musical commenced Broadway previews on March 29, 2024, and officially opened on April 25, 2024, at The Broadway Theatre. It features standout performances by acclaimed vocalists Jeremy Jordan and Eva Noblezada, offering a spectacular visual and auditory experience that has captivated audiences, as noted by The Washington Post. This production followed a world premiere at Paper Mill Playhouse, where it set records as the highest-grossing show in the theater’s history.
During its run from October 12 to November 12, 2023, the initial production shattered records for ticket sales, with sell-out performances even prior to its debut. Upon moving to New York, The Great Gatsby continued to break box office records, achieving unprecedented weekly sales at The Broadway Theatre in both 2024 and 2025.
