The upcoming period action drama film, Chhaava, featuring Vicky Kaushal, is gearing up for its release on February 14. Directed by Laxman Utekar, the film highlights the life of the legendary Maratha warrior Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, renowned for his valor and resilience. In anticipation of the film’s launch, Utekar shared insights during an interview, emphasizing Kaushal’s commanding presence on set, describing it as akin to the arrival of a lion.

In a conversation with Pinkvilla, Utekar recounted, “With around 1500 people present on the set, even amidst the hustle and bustle, the moment Vicky, in his role as Raaze, emerged from his vanity van, it felt like a lion was coming. Dressed in Sambhaji Maharaj’s costume and wielding a sword, he commanded such respect that the entire crew would instinctively stand still. No one dared to speak out simply because he embodied the character for us. His presence silenced the entire team, which speaks volumes about his aura.”

Chhaava, produced by Maddock Films, also stars Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai Bhonsale, the wife of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, and Akshaye Khanna as the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.

Kaushal reciprocated the admiration for Utekar, noting the director’s remarkable ability to maintain poise during the extensive filming process of Chhaava. He remarked, “Given the chaos that can ensue on set, I expected him at any moment to express frustration about the situation. Over the course of our 100-day shoot, I was astonished that I never witnessed him lose his temper.”

“His unwavering commitment to the project has fostered a collaborative spirit. Whenever challenges have arisen, he approaches them with a mindset of finding solutions together, demonstrating calmness and a sincere concern for the entire team. This inclusive approach inspired everyone on set to passionately contribute to showcasing the grandeur of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Utekar possesses a rare quality that keeps the atmosphere positive,” Kaushal continued.

This film marks the second collaboration between Vicky Kaushal and Laxman Utekar, following the success of their previous project, Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, in which Kaushal starred alongside Sara Ali Khan.

In addition to Chhaava, Vicky Kaushal is also set to appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s anticipated period drama, Love and War, sharing the screen with prominent actors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt.
