Denny’s Closes Long-Standing Kansas City Location
A popular late-night diner chain has shut down its Kansas City outlet, which had been serving the community for over 17 years. The Denny’s restaurant located at 6887 E. Front St. has displayed notices in its windows indicating that it is permanently closed, guiding patrons to several nearby branches instead.
Customers can visit other Denny’s establishments at 2117 Taney St., 3939 S. Nolan Road in Independence, 8810 E. State Route 350 in Raytown, 9001 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Merriam, and 10480 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park.
This closure is part of a broader strategy by the South Carolina-based Denny’s Corporation, which announced plans in October to permanently close 150 locations across the United States—representing approximately 10% of its total stores—by the end of 2025. According to CNN’s report, company officials are focusing on “underperforming stores” as part of their restructuring efforts.
The now-closed location in Northeast Kansas City was operated by Den-Tex Central, a Texas-based franchisee. The company has yet to comment on this closure.
When queried about potential future closures in the Kansas City area, Denny’s management declined to offer any specific updates or forewarnings.
Denny’s has a long history, originating in Lakewood, California, in 1953. Over the decades, it has evolved into a recognized brand, known for its 24-hour availability, allowing customers to enjoy meals at any time of day or night.
