New Insights on OnePlus 13R: More Than Just a Rebrand?

Since the OnePlus 12R was essentially a rebranded version of the OnePlus Ace 3, it was widely believed that the forthcoming OnePlus 13R would follow suit and mirror the OnePlus Ace 5, which recently debuted in China. The global launch for the OnePlus 13R is scheduled for January 7th, however, emerging rumors suggest that the new device might not be an exact replica of the Ace 5.

In the realm of smartphone iterations, it’s worth noting that the OnePlus Ace 4 is notably absent, a decision stemming from cultural beliefs in China regarding the number four, which is associated with bad luck due to its phonetic similarity to the word for death. This phenomenon, termed tetraphobia, has also influenced Oppo to bypass the number in their Find flagship series. As a result, OnePlus has chosen to leap from the Ace 3 directly to the Ace 5.

Recent confirmations indicate that the OnePlus 13R will sport a 6000mAh battery, a decrease from the 6400mAh capacity found in the OnePlus Ace 5. Beyond battery specifications, a well-known leaker has revealed further distinctions between the two models. Both the OnePlus 13R and Ace 5 will feature a 50 MP main camera equipped with Sony’s Lytia LYT-700 image sensor, alongside an 8 MP ultra-wide camera. Additionally, both devices are set to include a 16 MP front-facing camera.

In a recent tweet, leaker Yogesh Brar disclosed intriguing information about the OnePlus 13R’s camera setup. Unlike the Ace 5, the 13R will include a dedicated telephoto camera that utilizes Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5 sensor, providing 2x optical zoom capability.

Brar also shared potential configurations for the OnePlus 13R aimed at the Indian market. There will be a version with 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM coupled with 256GB of UFS 4.0 storage. For those needing even more power, another version will be available with 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 512GB of UFS 4.0 storage.

As these specifications suggest, it appears that the assumptions surrounding the OnePlus 13R being a mere rebrand of the Ace 5 are unfounded. The introduction of unique features marks the 13R as a distinctive entry in the OnePlus lineup, potentially catering to different user preferences.
