Leicester Manager Van Nistelrooy Remains Committed Despite Team Struggles
Ruud Van Nistelrooy has addressed speculation regarding his future as the manager of Leicester City, affirming his commitment to the team just 56 days into his tenure. The Foxes find themselves in a precarious position, having suffered seven consecutive defeats in the Premier League. A further loss against Tottenham this Sunday would match a club record run of defeats set back in 2001.
Currently sitting second from the bottom of the league table, Leicester is two points adrift of safety following a disappointing 2-0 loss to Fulham last weekend. Since taking over from Steve Cooper in November, Van Nistelrooy has managed to secure only two victories in ten competitive matches, one of which included a decisive 6-2 win against QPR in the FA Cup.
When questioned about the possibility of facing dismissal, the former Dutch international remained focused on his objectives. “I’m concentrating on getting this team out of the situation; that’s my primary concern,” he stated. He emphasized his dedication to working closely with players and staff to extract the best performance from the squad during these challenging times. “In tough circumstances, resilience, character, hard work, and commitment are essential,” he added.
Van Nistelrooy expressed confidence in the team’s spirit, asserting, “We are united and committed. You can see that on the pitch, exhibiting both spirit and determination. If we maintain our focus, this losing streak will surely come to an end.” The manager’s remarks reflect a belief that the potential for turnaround exists within the squad.
In addition, Van Nistelrooy addressed transfer speculation surrounding midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, who has captivated interest from Monaco. He reaffirmed Ndidi’s importance to the team, confirming that the player, who recently signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional year, is not on the market this January. “No, of course not,” he responded when asked about Ndidi’s potential departure, highlighting the midfielder’s critical role in the squad.
Ndidi is reportedly nearing a return from a hamstring injury, which the club has felt keenly in his absence. Van Nistelrooy stated, “Wilfred is a vital component of our team and a valued member of the club. We’re thrilled that he is almost ready to contribute again.” The manager acknowledged the significant impact Ndidi has on the squad’s performance, underscoring his belief that the player will play a pivotal role in their fight for survival in the Premier League.
