Lewis Hamilton Draws Massive Crowds at Fanatics Store Opening in London
A recent encounter with a friend revealed their aversion to Lewis Hamilton, citing a belief that he perceives himself as larger than the sport of Formula 1. However, an event on April 25 showcased the extent of his influence when Hamilton’s mere presence at a store opening in central London seemed to stop traffic.
The seven-time world champion made a notable appearance at the inauguration of the new Fanatics flagship store on Regent Street, an event that generated significant buzz prior to the day. Fanatics had announced Hamilton’s attendance, highlighting his role in cutting the ceremonial ribbon.
The anticipation reached a fever pitch as fervent F1 fans quickly flocked to central London, eager for a chance to spot the iconic driver. Reports indicated that many fans camped out overnight, with some queuing as early as 4 AM to secure their spot for Hamilton’s arrival.
Scheduled to perform the ribbon-cutting at noon, fans faced a lengthy wait in the bustling streets of London. Hamilton, joined by Fanatics founder Michael Rubin, finally opened the store, which is affectionately dubbed the “Home of the Hobby.”
Following the ceremony, Hamilton engaged with fans, sharing that he possesses an impressive collection of approximately 400 race-worn helmets amassed throughout his F1 career. In an exciting announcement, it was revealed that Hamilton’s race-worn suits are incorporated into Fanatics’ collectible cards, with the suits being cut into small pieces that are included in the Dynasty collection. Rubin noted that these cards provide fans with a unique opportunity to “get a piece of the action.”
The queue outside the Fanatics store, which specializes in trading cards and collectible memorabilia, reportedly extended around the block. Enthusiastic fans took to social media to express their excitement leading up to the ribbon-cutting ceremony, donning merchandise from both Ferrari and Mercedes to showcase their allegiance.
This overwhelming turnout illustrates that, despite Hamilton’s on-track challenges this season, his appeal remains undiminished. The British racer continues to be the most followed F1 driver on social media, consistently reaching audiences beyond the confines of the sport.
In addition to this event, Hamilton is set to co-chair this year’s Met Gala, which will spotlight Black style, further cementing his influence across various domains, including his recent investment in the NFL’s Denver Broncos.
